Centre asked to block 132 websites: Andhra Pradesh gambling

Casino & Poker websites and apps in AP flee as block is closing in

Two months ago, the Council of Ministers in Andhra Pradesh decided to ban online gambling.

This means that the original Gambling Act of 1974 was amended to specifically include online gambling, making organizers risk 12-month imprisonment for first-time offenses and players risk 6 months jail-time.

Now, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has submitted a list of 132 websites and apps that they believe should be blocked, as they are deemed to be offering gambling services online.

Several popular sites amongst those mentioned in the list

Paytm First Game, Mobile Premier League, and Adda52 are just a few of the listed websites or apps mentioned on the list.

Interestingly enough, Dream11, the main IPL sponsor, has not been included in the list.

The request has been sent to The Centre to urge them to issue a state-wide block of all of these sites and apps for all internet providers.

The motivation for this block would be the amended law, where internet providers not blocking gambling sites could be liable for punishment as allowing them could be deemed as assisting them to do so.

Poker sites already backing out from AP

PokerStars.IN, Adda52, Spartan Poker, and PokerBaazi have already left Andhra Pradesh and have restricted their services to players in the location.

A spokesperson from PokerStars.IN commented that “We have added Andhra Pradesh to the list of the restricted regions,” and that “official communication has been sent out to the players.”
