According to the state laws on gambling, games of skill are considered legal and fine, while other game types (except for horse racing, Billiard, and Whist) are not.

However, the Tripura Gambling Act, 1926, was created way before mobile devices and the internet existed, so there are ways to play any type of casino game without issues from Tripura.

The most important thing to remember is that common gaming houses are illegal, so when playing, make sure not to be located in one.

There have been no arrests of Tripura gamblers playing at foreign online casino sites. As long as you play at your own discretion, you face little to no risk of any trouble.

Gambling Laws in Tripura

As mentioned, the gambling laws in this state are dictated by the Tripura Gambling Act, 1926. These laws are fairly similar to the Public Gambling Act of 1867 but are possibly even simpler than that.

The laws explicitly state that visiting a common gaming house is illegal. The police are allowed to arrest visitors to such houses, no matter if they are playing or not.

Tripura Gambling Act, 1926

According to the Tripura Gambling Act, 1926, anyone found visiting, owning, or running a gaming house risks a fine of up to ₹200 and imprisonment for up to three months.

Anyone found breaking the law numerous times risks a fine double the previous punishment, with a limit of ₹1000 fine and up to one year in prison.

Casino in Agartala

Agartala, the capital city of Tripura, is a perfect location for online gamblers.

You can basically pick any of the larger internet providers in India (JIO, Airtel, Vodafone, BNSL, etc.) and have a great, safe gambling experience!

Play Teen Patti, Ludo, Andar Bahar, and more directly from your mobile phone or computer device in Agartala

Lottery in Tripura

Lottery used to be legal in Tripura but was banned by the state government after a number of scams.

Today, Tripura is not part of the thirteen states which have a state lottery. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t participate in online lottery draws.

Online lotteries like Lottofy and Lottosmile have some of the world’s largest draws available, able to make you a crorepati instantly!

Sports betting in Tripura

Although sports like cricket are huge in India, sports betting is not legal in most Indian states. As a matter of fact, it’s only legal in two states, Sikkim and Meghalaya.

That said, the game of Teer is considered a game of skill, and it is therefore not unusual to have people betting on the outcome of this game in Tripura.

Foreign online sports betting sites offer odds on a large number of cricket matches, as well as football, ice hockey, basketball, baseball, and much more!

Horse racing in Tripura

Tripura follows the rest of India when it comes to horse racing. According to their gambling act, horse racing is a game of skill, and it is, therefore, possible to place bets on races taking place in the state.

For local bets, these have to be placed at the racetrack on the day of the race. For a much larger selection of odds and bets, use a foreign online sports betting site.

Status on Rummy, Poker, Flush, and other card games

Rummy is a game of skill, and the laws of Tripura also specifically state that the card game of Whist is legal.

Interestingly enough, although card games like online blackjack use skill and strategy to increase winning probabilities, it’s considered a game of chance, and you will therefore not be able to play it locally.

Offshore gambling sites make all these games available to you, both in digital and live versions. Simply take your pick and start playing!

To sum it up

You can gamble with ease from Tripura, thanks to the archaic gambling laws used in the state.

Keep to online games played from a mobile or stationary device, and you’ll have no problems enjoying the fun that comes with gambling!

We recommend that you use a safe payment method and that you play at your own discretion.

Although there’s close to no risk to gamble privately in Tripura, doing so together with a group of friends can put you at risk of gambling in a “gaming house.”
