High limit is a blackjack type that won’t feel foreign to those familiar with the base game. In fact, high limit can be applied to any variation of this casino classic, even the best online casinos in India. It simply means you can place a larger bet than what’s normally allowed.
This is especially appealing to experienced blackjack players and those who know when to double down. Even versions of this game, such as classic blackjack, that use multiple decks to stack the odds in the house’s favor still offer an enticing edge compared to options like roulette, keno, and craps.
High limit plays just like low limit blackjack. All games follow these steps: Players and the dealer receive two cards. Generally, player cards are face up and one of the dealer’s cards is kept face down. Some versions of the game require the dealer to show both cards. Players can hit or stand. With a hit, you get one more card. Players continue to hit until they “bust,” meaning they’ve exceeded a total card value of 21, or decide to stand. The winner is whoever is closest to 21 without going over.
The blackjack rules, excluding the ability to place larger bets, will also be the same for whatever version of the game you’re playing.
Beyond being familiar with the exact variation you’re playing, it’s important you have a grasp on some basic best practices. For example, in virtually every version of the game, hitting when you have a hand value of eight or less and standing at 17 or more is a solid, simple blackjack strategy.
If you’re a more advanced player, you’ll want to look at the other cards that have been played on the table to get an idea of what’s likely to be turned over next. With game variants that use multiple decks, however, this can get tricky. Also, it might not improve the edge enough in your favour to warrant serious counting.
High limit has identical blackjack odds and payout ratios as any other version of the game that’s played using the same rules. However, you stand to win or lose much more if you take advantage of the higher limit.
Regardless, it’s difficult to peg the odds because the numbers will change depending on the strategy you use and your experience level. The payout is relatively consistent, though. Natural blackjacks usually pay 3-to-2, and plain 21s and all other wins return at a rate of 1-to-1.

There are dozens of types of blackjack, and all can be designated as low limit or high limit tables. Some of the most notable differences across these games include the number of decks used (up to eight in some types of blackjack); whether the dealer must turn over none, one, or both cards; and whether the dealer or players can peek at their cards in certain situations.
Before you sit down at a table, get familiar with all the rules. This is especially important in a high limit game.
